Respite Care


PARC's Respite Care Center, located at 3004 W. Granada Court in Peoria, provides temporary care to over 150 children and adults with developmental disabilities and serves families all across the state of Illinois. 

The Center was built specifically for Respite Care and has veteran, full-time staff members.  The Center is licensed by DCFS and the Health Department and accredited by CARF. 

Parents and guardians receive thirty days of respite care per year at no cost
to the family through the State of Illinois.  Respite Care is funded
through a grant from the Department of Human Services.

Reservations are accepted 30 days in advance.  Crisis and emergency respite care is also available.

What is Respite Care?

"Respite" refers to short-term, temporary care provided to people outside their home.  Respite Care can be planned in advance or can be there to assist in an emergency situation.  Respite Care has many benefits, including enabling families to take vacations or just a few hours' time off and helping to prevent abuse and neglect.

Who does PARC's Respite Care Center serve?

Basic requirements for Respite Care include: individual must have a diagnosis of a developmental disability; individual must be at least two years of age; individual must live at home with parents or other family caregiver.

Other requirements include: individual must not require skilled nursing, prenatal or maternity care; a copy of individual's annual physical must be on file with the Respite Care Center; individual must not be abusive to self, others or property and must not require seclusion or restraints. 

Why the Respite Care Center?

PARC's Respite Care Center offers a safe environment that caregivers can trust to provide a temporary "home away from home" for their loved one. 

PARC has provided Respite Care for nearly 40 years and is the only downstate
Center that offers services to both children and adults.

Additional services offered at the Respite Care Center

PARC Respite Care Center also offers a Before and After School Care Program for children with disabilities who are enrolled in area schools. Family members are able to leave their child at the Respite Care Center on weekday mornings, and area public schools will provide bus transportation to and from school. An after-school a snack is also provided as well as activities and special outings.

The Program's hours are 7 am to 6 pm on weekdays during the regular school year, based on the Peoria District 150 school schedule.  The cost of the Before and After School Care Program is $10 per day.
